E. P. Burke Publishing Wins Award

E. P. Burke Publishing of Sarasota, FL Is One of the Top 500 Small Businesses Recognized For High Customer Engagement Rates in Email Marketing.

SAN FRANCISCO, 2011 – President E. P. Ned Burke of E. P. Burke Publishing was recognized by VerticalResponse as a winner in their quarterly customer awards program, the VR500. This awards program highlights the top 500 small business customers that have maintained high email engagement rates – as demonstrated by their average email open and click through rates. To qualify for the awards, customers had to have sent at least four email campaigns in the fourth quarter of 2010, and mailed to a list size of between 100-500 opt-in subscribers.

“I am most proud of this award,” said Burke. “I like to think E. P. Burke Publishing has a personal connection to all subscribers, especially to those supporters of our magazines, Yesterday’s Magazette and The Perspiring Writer Magazine.”

Remembering The Golden Age of Radio

Younger folks who did not grow up with radio have no idea how it fired our imaginations. Television can't begin to accomplish the same effect because
it supplies the images. Radio only supplied the magic of sound. You had to
create your own images in your mind's eye, your imagination. You entered a
mental wonderland of special effects, all supplied by your own intellect. It
also goes without saying that the quality of programing was infinitely
better and more wholesome than it is now. No profanity, no sick humor, no
hate mongering talk shows, only good stories and great music. Radio will, of
course, never be the same, because the programing now seeks to titillate the
lowest level listener, and most of the music is trash. We listened to the
"golden age" of radio in the 30's, 40's and early 50's. It will never come
again.

I am so grateful to have found this Magazette. Reading these stories of people's lives is a continuation of a lifelong habit. Even as a young girl, it was thrilling to listen to my mother's stories of her early life and later to other older story tellers who had such rich memories to relate.

Regarding Madonna Christensen's story on the haunted house, My father took it over after my grandmothers passing (not there)and lived there for several years. I visited often and many odd things happened through the years. We never experienced anything violent but you definitely knew you were not alone. Often saw someone walking in your peripheral vision and heard noises, tapping, things would be left one place and found another, etc. Beautiful house though!

Ned, I'm so glad to see that YM is still going strong! Many years ago, you printed one of my stories about tossing cans into a neighbor's yard. I was thrilled to see it in print...and I've gone on to become a freelance writer since then, and made a huge move to the hinterlands (Minnesota).

I'm glad to have found YM again!
